A Tribute to Norma

“A friend loveth at all times” (Proverbs 17:17)
This past year, my husband and I have gone through a change. Although change is always a challenge, this one proved to be one of the most difficult one in our entire married life. Through it though, I have been very thankful for good friends. Norma has been a most loyal friend and supported me every step of the way.
She did so many things to make me feel loved. She e-mailed me. She asked me out for lunch. She listened to me talk about my struggles. She was loyal. She was fun – she made me laugh. She was there for me.
A quote by Jerry White describes my friend Norma: “A friend is a trusted confidante to whom I am mutually drawn as a companion and ally whose love for me is not dependent on my performance and whose influence draws me nearer to the Lord.”
In his book, Facing Loneliness, J. Oswald Sanders had this to say about friendship: “True friendship can be costly. It is much more than making use of someone for your own benefit, for of necessity it involves self-giving, and that incurs a cost.”
Norma has been self-giving in so many ways. I have felt loved by Norma. I always feel closer to God when we spend time together. I value her friendship beyond words.
Take time to thank your friend today. Be a friend to someone else.
Father, thank You for loyal friends. Friends who stick close to us when we are on a mountaintop or in a valley. Father, enable me to be a loyal friend to someone else.
