Ananias of Damascus

Ananias of Damascus,
powerful capital of Syria.
Well-known citizen, respected
in the bustling, international marketplace.
A disciple of the Resurrected Messiah.
God moved you beyond
your comfort zone.
Called you by name.
You answered as the prophet, Samuel,
“Here I am, Lord.”
It is always risky to
make yourself available
to God.
Sent to the street called Straight,
crossroad of the pulsing city,
to search for the house where
the infamous persecutor, Saul
of Tarsus, waited.
You found a blind man
who saw truth.
Your fears fell like the scales from his eyes--
as stretching forth your hands to touch him--
each of you was healed.
I wonder if a man called Ananias
lives today in Damascus,
powerful capital of Syria?
Or if he listens for the voice of the Lord;
would search the street called Straight,
to find a man of God who speaks truth?
A man of the Cross,
not of the crescent moon.
