“ Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle quiet spirit which is so precious to God” (1 Peter 3:3-4).
One morning, as I stepped outside into the fresh morning air, I noticed the birds singing. The small birds called thrushes were singing their hearts out and happily flying from tree to tree. Their songs made me feel happy. The colors of their feathers were not very pretty - they were plain brown - but the songs they sang were so pretty. They made me feel good. They didn’t look so pretty on the outside, but the song that came from their hearts was beautiful.
And then I heard some blue jays. Their blue feathers glistened in the sun. They were so beautiful to look at. But when they opened their mouths, the most awful sound came out. They were pretty on the outside, but what came out of their mouths was awful. They even eat small birds. They were beautiful on the outside, but the songs that came from the inside sounded awful.
God wants our beauty to come from the inside like the little birds called “thrushes. We can wear beautiful clothes but that won’t make us beautiful on the inside. Thinking about God and talking to him and doing what He says, makes us beautiful in our heart.
A PRAYER FOR YOU TO SAY:
Lord Jesus, I want to be beautiful on the inside. Help me think about you and talk to you. Amen.
