Sharing Christ With Your Neighbors

“Make the most of your chances to tell others the Good News. Be wise in all your contacts with them. Let your conversation be gracious as well as sensible, for then you will have the right answer to everyone” (Colossians 4:5).
We lived on a small acreage as did our neighbors. It was not easy to get to know them, especially in southern British Columbia where it rains so much of the time. People just are not out in their yards.
We wanted to follow Christ’s command to be witnesses and to tell our neighbors (our Jerusalem) how they could have a personal relationship with God. We prayed for ideas about how we could do that.
We tried several different ways. One year, we had an open house for all the neighbors to get to know them better. Another time we put a Women Today evangelistic magazine and a letter in all the mailboxes offering to pray for them. One Easter we put a JESUS video in their mailboxes with a letter from us. It was like putting up a “we are Christians” flag out for everyone in our neighborhood to see.
There were over 100 neighbors within a one-mile radius so we mobilized some of our grandchildren to help us address and stuff the envelopes.
One of the letters we received after handing out the was from a woman on a small island off the coast of British Columbia. Besides thanking us for the , he told us that her brother (one of our neighbors) had sent her the JESUS video because she was ‘religious.’ She was thrilled and showed it to everyone on the island. She told everyone on the island about Jesus. Her Jerusalem!
What an encouragement that was to us! We wanted to share the gospel with our neighbors and God did more than we imagined. He used one video to share the gospel on a small island with people we had never heard of. God always has a bigger plan.
Father, thank You for putting in our hearts the desire to tell others about Jesus. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit who gives us the love and boldness to tell others about You. Amen.
